Shruti has worked in the Soft Materials Laboratory at the University of California Los Angeles on creating a tunable lens to one day replace prescription contact lenses. A member of the Robotics Club, Shruti wrote a proposal to fund a robotics project and received $5,000. Shruti aspires to become an engineer, specializing in creating artificial muscles. Shruti is a tutor, head of communications for the Discovery Science Center Teens, and she is the founder of the Oak Park Library Robotics Program.
