Richard Ren is an environmentalist who aims to fight climate change through advanced technologies. He has designed a framework to forecast air quality through machine learning techniques, published in the Air & Waste Management Association’s 113th Annual Conference as 1st author. He also conducts nanophotonics research at Stony Brook University, where he developed a novel scattering near-field microscopy probe design and deep learning-driven signal analysis system, with publications in Applied Physics Express (1st author) and Physical Review Applied (2nd author). Moreover, he volunteers with educational nonprofit Global Camps Africa, where he won the President’s Volunteer Service Award for creating educational films and music that benefited thousands of kids. In his free time, Richard loves to compose jazz music and debate political issues.
