"Coming from Sierra Leone and experiencing thousands of people dying from Malaria, Ebola and Typhoid, I have always been passionate about helping people who are suffering from diseases and illnesses that are detrimental to their health. Developing treatments and prevention can help save the lives of people and families all over the world, which is something I’m passionate about. During the summer of 2016, I participated in a career internship, where I did my research on Medicine and learned a lot about the organs in the human body and their functions. To prepare for this career in the healthcare field, I have also taken health, sports medicine classes, and signed up for Medical Terminology, Physiology, Anatomy, so I can acquire more knowledge and understanding about the human body and how it functions. I'm currently a freshman at Penn State University heading into my sophomore year while majoring in Biology. Since I was a child, I've always dreamed of going to medical school, and with this scholarship award I will be able to continue my undergraduate degree and strive towards achieving this goal."
