"My parents fled their homeland of Somalia to give their children better opportunities. Earning a college degree will create a better life for me, my family, and my community. I struggled to adjust to life in America, overcoming bullying, dyslexia, relocation, and feelings of isolation. My experiences inspired my successful plan for self-improvement. I’ve taken every college-level class at my school, led several clubs, interned with GE Healthcare, and my GPA is the highest it has ever been, ranking me in the top 5% of my graduating class. My love for learning grows daily and college is where I want to continue my self-improvement journey.

In college, I’ll study computer science. Creating solutions to problems was ingrained in me since I was young, when I witnessed my father fix computers. Once I establish a successful career, I’ll support my community by establishing opportunities for aspiring computer scientists to prepare for their careers. I’ll also motivate, inspire, and encourage others to join the field of computer science and discover the wonders within it. I’ll gain the knowledge and skills needed to make a lasting impact for communities that need it most. A life of service is a life well lived."
