Karen’s father taught her the concept of supply and demand when she was just five years old. Though born in Ecuador, Karen lived in Geneva, Switzerland, before she and her family relocated to Miami, FL. Karen studied the economy in each location—from governmental policies to day-to-day transactions. In the United States, Karen further studied proponents of entrepreneurship. As a sophomore, she created Lepsy’s App, which explains epilepsy to preschool-age children. Karen has competed in business plan competitions. She has also worked with doctors from the Epilepsy Foundation to integrate her app into children’s education programs. Karen was invited to the 2015 White House Science Fair. She served as a delegate in the 2013 Harvard Model Congress, and she participated in the Yale University Entrepreneurship Incubator summer program. Karen serves as the vice president of finances for her schools’ DECA Club. She will major in economics.
