Joshua was accepted to attend the Hispanic Scholarship Fund Youth Leadership Institute during the summer of 2014. A board member of Undid Poder Academico (United We Can Achieve), Joshua wished to assist first-generation Latino students in attaining secondary education. He proposed the implementation of a workshop challenging students to push themselves to new educational and professional heights. Joshua worked with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, his school, and Wells Fargo and was able to create a college and career preparedness workshop that reached over 40 attendees. Joshua is the cofounder and president of his school’s Business and Professional Development Club. As his senior project, Joshua worked with the Emily Shane Foundation and the Alum Rock Counseling Center to improve the mentorship system for students in underserved communities for two years.
