Haoyun Deng (Wendy) was born in Guangzhou, China, and her family immigrated to Philadelphia when she was in fourth grade. She attends the University of Pennsylvania, majoring in biology, aspiring to become a dentist who can give back to the community that warmly welcomed and accepted her upon arrival. Wendy has been interested in the natural sciences ever since she was little. In Central High School, she found that a STEM career would be more fulfilling and enjoyable for her since it aligns with her interests, particularly through classes such as AP Biology and AP Calculus BC. Wendy's summer job at a dental office was also one of the main impetus for her aspired path in dentistry. Honoring her Asian roots, she does not wish for her immigration to become the wall that separates my Chinese identity from my American self.
